Since 2010, the added value of China's manufacturing industry has ranked first in the world for 12 consecutive years.



Since the 18th CPC National Congress, China's position as a manufacturing power has been further consolidated. From 2012 to 2021, the added value of China's industry increased from 20.9 trillion yuan to 37.3 trillion yuan, of which the added value of manufacturing increased from 16.98 trillion yuan to 31.4 trillion yuan.


-- The international competitiveness of the manufacturing industry has significantly increased. China is the only country in the world with all the industrial categories listed in the United Nations industrial classification, and the output of more than 220 industrial products ranks first in the world. In 2021, the added value of China's industrial enterprises above designated size will grow by 9.6 percent, 6.8 percentage points higher than 2020 and an average growth of 6.1 percent over the past two years.


-- The innovation capacity of the manufacturing sector has significantly improved. The photovoltaic, wind power, shipbuilding and other industrial chains have further strengthened their international competitive advantages. Container output increased by 110.6% year on year, while chip output increased by 33.3%. Progress has been made in tackling key problems in new displays, industrial motherboards and new materials.


-- Upgrading of the manufacturing industrial structure was accelerated. The added value of high-tech manufacturing and equipment manufacturing increased by 18.2 percent and 12.9 percent respectively, contributing 28.6 percent and 45 percent respectively to the growth of above designated industries. Energy consumption per unit of added value of industrial enterprises above designated size decreased by 5.6% year on year.


-- Digital transformation of the manufacturing sector is accelerating. China has built the world's largest optical fiber and mobile communications network, with more than 1.425 million 5G base stations and 520 million 5G mobile phones connected. The transformation of the manufacturing industry to become digital and green has been accelerated. 55.3 percent of key processes in key areas have been digitally controlled, and 74.7 percent of digital R&D and design tools have been used, providing a strong impetus for the sustained and sound development of the economy and society.
